Mommy Mondays

So I have been thinking a lot about the direction in which my blog is headed and I have decided to dedicate every Monday to the newest part of my life, being a mommy.  My blog began as a fashion blog and slowly transformed into a lifestyle blog.  I have made the decision to start sharing the things I love most with ya'll.  Those things being fashion, motherhood, crafting, photography and just the beauty of life, so be prepared for a fun mix!  Monday's will now be dedicated to "motherhood" with a series called Mommy Mondays.  If anyone is interested in joining  me for Mommy Mondays shoot me an e-mail at  We can discuss some ideas I have.

I find it so funny that when you become pregnant you begin counting how far along you are by weeks and not months.  Then once your baby is born you continue this trend and refer to his or her age in weeks not months.  Then all of a sudden you stop using weeks and start using months when you can be using years.  To be honest it is all real confusing when 20 weeks is not really 5 months but I get why.  Pregnancy really does change everything even your way of thinking.  I'll be happy when I can start referring to Aidan's age in years!  Even then people and clothes for that matter say 12 months (rather than a year) and then 18 months and so forth.  You don't officially hit the "year" mark until 2.  Once our babies hit the 12 month mark can't we just start using years!  I don't know why this bothers me so much sometimes, haha.

Anyway we have been working on Aidan sitting up all by himself and he is doing great.  I swear as a mother you start to look at the suggested "monthly milestones" and freak out if your baby is not on target.  Aidan basically does everything the "experts" say he should be doing.  I'll be honest he rolls over once in a blue moon (both ways) but really has no interest in it.  He is a nosy baby so he is too concerned looking around to be bothered with rolling.  But he sure moves those legs like he wants to be crawling already.  Not yet buddy!  All babies develop differently so I find it bothersome when I hear people talking and hear things like "Oh you should be worried, so and so should be doing this and that by now."  Babies have a mind of there own just like we do and some babies, like Aidan, just don't like rolling over or don't like crawling or want to talk a little later than others.  Just another thing for us mothers to be paranoid about.  Is this why I see more gray hairs sprouting up!?!

All I know is I love seeing this little fellow hit these many milestones even if they are not at the "expected" week or month!

One thing I know for sure is Aidan's clothing size does not match how many months old he is!!

So plan on seeing this little fellow every Monday and hear my thoughts on all topics "Mommy".
He is so special he gets his own day over here at Simply Just Lovely!!

A Mothers "4 Super Powers"

I swear when you become a mother you develop "super hero powers".  No joke!
You do things you never thought possible.
It's pretty cool really.  I mean who doesn't want a super power.

So without further ado here are a Mothers "4 super powers".

1.  Super Strength...yup just like Wonder Women.  Seriously a mother should be referred to as wonder women!  When I used to lift weights, which seems like ages ago, I would use two 10 pound laughing!!  Now I carry a 17lb baby in his car seat on one arm, a diaper bag and pocketbook on the other arm while carrying my coffee and sometimes a stroller.  Now those things combined are well over 20 lbs because believe me a diaper bag is never ending and can quickly add up in weight.  So for me this is called super strength.

2.  Super fast as Flash!  I swear I can do things 100 times faster now that I have a baby.  Get dressed in the blink of an eye!  Shower in the time it takes to spell MISSISSIPPI!  I can get from my bedroom to the babies room in one leap!  Okay maybe I'm not that quick but believe me you manage to do things faster than you ever have before.

3.  Super Hearing...similar to that of Superman or should I say "Supermom".  I have always been a deep sleeper.  I mean I sleep through ridiculously loud thunderstorms, have fallen asleep in the movies and at concerts.  The things you can hear when you become a mother is remarkable.  I'm not even referring to cries from my son, I wake up to him moving his arm!  I remember being so nervous I wouldn't hear him at night...def not a problem!!  Does it matter if I'm running on an hour of sleep as opposed to eight hours, not at all!

4.  Psychic Powers...just like Professor X.  This may be the coolest, scariest and most amazing of the "super powers"!  I swear when it comes to Aidan I know when things are going to happen before they actually happen.  I cannot even count how many times I have woken up staring at the monitor and there is my sweet baby sound asleep.  Within the next couple minutes who wakes up...yup that is right, baby boy.  It's like I can sense he is going to wake up before he does.  Must be that "mothers instinct" everyone told me about.  I think it is pretty darn amazing to have that kind of connection with your child.

To all you mothers out there, we truly are super heros!!  I mean we gave birth...enough said!
Don't you mommas agree?!

Aidan's Christening

This past Sunday we shared a beautiful day with family and friends blessing our sweet baby boy.  We had a private ceremony which was perfect especially since Aidan decided to get a little cranky at one point but he was a good boy.  He looked just to darn handsome in his Christening outfit.  He is getting so big!!  I cannot believe he will be 5 months old tomorrow.  On Saturday we went for a check up and he now weighs 17lbs and is 27 inches long.  He is no doubt a big boy!!

Let the fun begin

One of my favorite things about being a new mom is experiencing all of Aidan's firsts.

This weekend may have been one of my favorite "first" moments.  Aidan had cereal for the first time and it was adorable and hilarious all at the same time.  This little guy loves to eat but has never really loved the bottle.  The spoon on the other hand, he is quite fond of.  He opened wide every time that spoon went near his face, very comical.  I think this little guy is going to be quite fond of baby food.  At first he was a little confused and just gave me a look like "what are you trying to put in my mouth lady" but then he just wanted more and more.  His facial expressions were priceless.  And being the photo obsessed momma that I am, I of course documented the entire thing.

Here are a few of my favorites.

I think I may need to get covers for my off white dining room chairs, haha!

Finding a balance

Something that has been quite a challenge.
Upon returning to work it has been a struggle balancing the many titles I hold.

How do you manage to fit all these things into a 16 hour day.  Yup that's right I make sure to get 8 hours of sleep a night.  Well that is if my 4 1/2 month old allows it and thankfully he has been.
Because lets be real, my schedule is now his schedule.

I attempt to get all my "school work" done while I'm at work so I have every possible minute with Aidan once I get home.  And basically that consists of 4 to 4 1/2 hours of mother/son time.  Once the baby is asleep, I am left with about 2 hours to fulfill my other three titles.  There is no possible way to blog, craft, and spend quality time with the soon to be hubby in only 2 hours.  Oh yea did I mention I also need to do dishes, prepare lunch/dinner for the next day, and shower in this time.  Do you see the challenge??

I love blogging and my Etsy shop way to much to give either of them up.  So the goal is to find time to do ALL the things I love.  Because everyone should find time in life to do the things they love.  I just happen to love being a mother, a teacher, a crafter, a blogger, and a fiancee.  I am making it my mission to find a balance which makes me happy, my fiancee happy and my son happy.  Because lets face it, I'm not happy unless all three of us are happy.  It may take some time but I am determined to find a balance that works for me.  A balance that allows me to continue living the life I dreamed of.  A balance that is fulfilling.  A balance that is fair to me while being equally fair to my loved ones.  Should I dare say the perfect balance?  I most certainly will not because there will never be a perfect balance but there will be a balance that seems perfect to me.

Everyday it is incredibly hard leaving this little boy and allowing myself to do the other things that make me happy.

But beginning and ending all my days with this little face is a dream come true!

Back to work

Yesterday was my first day back to work.  It felt so strange returning at this point in the school year.  For me it feels like September.  Thankfully my first day went well.  I have an awesome group of students this year, which will make being away from my baby boy a little easier.  I forgot how much I love teaching.  So as much as I would love to be able to spend every minute of everyday with my son that is just not possible.  So if I have to be away from him, I am exactly where I would want to be.

On Tuesday night I was really struggling with the idea of returning to work.  Then I received a text from my cousin and that message was exactly what I needed to read at that moment.

"Good Luck tomorrow.  Everything will be ok, it just takes some time.  Aidan will make friends as he grows and he will be great.  You will show him you are a kick ass "momma" who loves him more than anything and that you are a modern woman who has a career to help provide Aidan with the best life possible.  It will always be a challenge but you will figure it out.  The smile he will give you when you pick him up at the end of the day is priceless.  You can do it!"

And she could not have been more right.  While it was a challenge and will continue to be, in the end don't we always do what is best for our children?  Even if that is leaving them to go to work.  I will look at it as some "me" time for the day.  And even though I miss him like crazy, I am just that more excited to see his smiling face every day.  I cherish every minute I get with him that much more.  And I am thankful for the time I have had home with him.  I am just taking it one day at a time.
