Guest Post by Nikki @ Bedazzles After Dark // Fall Accessories

Hello Lovelies! My name is Nikki and I am so thrilled to be helping out Erin as she takes that major leap into mommyhood! Usually, you can find me on Bedazzles After Dark, obsessing over all things sparkly and girly with a few outfits here and there. One thing I try to maintain in my own wardrobe is budget-friendly fashion. So here are some of my favorite fall accessories that will keep your wallet full and your style on trend.
2012 Fall Accessories
One thing you must get this upcoming season: Printed Shoes. Whether it's a loafer or a classic pump, you can't go wrong. I've got both and plan on wearing them nonstop over the next coming months. Pair them with skinny jeans, solid dresses and mini skirts for fabulous versatility.

As I previously stated, I'm obsessed with Sparkles. Adorning your neck or luscious locks are just 2 ways (out of many) to add a bit of shimmer to your every day style. Mock collar necklaces are huge right now and you'll get extra points for a glittery choice. I also love pinning back one side of hair with a gemstone barrette or bobbi pin - instant "wow" factor!

Statement Handbags are next on your list for the upcoming fall season. We're going to continue seeing studded options so look for options in the newest "it" color - gunmetal/silver. This boxed shape is perfect for a night out on the town. We'll also be seeing more transparent options. I'd opt out of the pink liner and make sure you're not carrying anything too embarrassing! :)

Lastly, perk up your fall look with Colored Makeup. The great thing about cosmetics is that they're an inexpensive way to switch up your look. A swipe of red lipstick can turn your outfit from flat to fab. The latest beauty item I can't stop wearing? Cream liner. It goes on smooth and there's tons of colors to choose from. Keep your lines clean and sharp. Add a coat or two of mascara for a gorgeous pop.
I hope you've enjoyed my budget suggestions! Stop by my blog and drop me a line! I'll leave you with a few of my ways to wear the above. Thanks again Erin! xoxo

Thanks Nikki!

Make sure to stop by tomorrow for a special giveaway in honor of this little guy

I can't believe he is already a week old today!

Guest Post by Erin @ The Grass Skirt // 5 Tips to Remember When Shopping for Maternity Clothes

Hi, everyone!
My name is Erin, and I am a health & wellness consultant, newspaper columnist, and the blogger behind The Grass Skirt. Over at my blog, I write about my daily life and how I stay healthy (while still eating doughnuts every now and then).  My blog also includes recipes, lifestyle tips, and information about non-toxic beauty and home care products. Plus, I just got an adorable puppy named Lucy, and I'm expecting my first child (a baby boy) with my husband Michael in October!
Being pregnant has been the most exciting time of my life, and I've truly enjoyed every minute of it (even the heartburn, restless nights, morning sickness, and fatigue).  In all honesty, it has become more enjoyable to shop for baby clothes than my own clothes, but even so, I still like to look cute while buying those diapers and onesies.

While I am not a fashion expert by any means, I have learned a bit about maternity style throughout the course of my pregnancy, and I thought I'd share some of my tips with you today.

Resist the urge to buy maternity clothes right away.
As soon as I saw that double pink line on my pregnancy test, I wanted to run right out and replace my entire wardrobe with maternity clothes.  There were days when I really thought that I looked pregnant- even at just 6 weeks along- when I was actually just extremely bloated (one of the many unglamorous sides of pregnancy).
In fact, I remember wearing a pair of maternity shorts pretty early on while I was out shopping one day, and I didn't even come close to filling them out yet.  I spent the entire day pulling my shorts up, and I'm pretty sure that I probably flashed a few strangers in the process.
Looking back, I would have enjoyed the extra time in my "normal" clothes because I miss them like crazy now!
Buy a little bit at a time.
Obviously, an expectant mother's size fluctuates throughout those nine months, and it is difficult to guess what size you'll be wearing in month nine when you're only at month three.
My advice is to fill your wardrobe as your belly fills out.
Know where to shop.
While you can certainly spend a fortune on designer maternity wear, many stores  carry inexpensive (and stylish) maternity clothes.  My favorite places to shop are, Old Navy (not all store fronts carry maternity clothes, so I usually shop online), Motherhood Maternity (be sure to sign up for their mailing list in order to get sale notifications), and Target (I love their Liz Lange line).  Some of these stores, such as Old Navy, even have outlet centers where you can find amazing deals!

Stock up on basic essentials.
Since I work from home, I'm pretty fortunate that I never had to worry about purchasing office appropriate attire.  Even so, I'd suggest investing in just a few pairs of pants, shorts (if you're pregnant during the summertime of course), and skirts but lots of solid-colored shirts, tees, and blouses, so you can easily mix and match.  It's always fun to throw a patterned dress or top into the mix too.
Oh- and I simply cannot forget to give a shout-out to the maxi dress.  These have literally been a lifesaver during my pregnancy.  They are stylish and super comfortable.  You cannot beat that!
Spice up those basics with accessories.
Without some good statement pieces, I'd probably be bored to tears with my wardrobe by now.  Chunky necklaces, earrings, rings, scarves, and hats are all great ways to make getting dressed more fun (especially toward the end of pregnancy when getting dressed starts to feel like a cardio workout).

I hope that you find this post to be helpful.  If you have any tips to add, please share them in the comments!
I'd love for you to stop by and visit my blog.  You can also find me on Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook.
Thanks so much, Erin for inviting me to do a guest post.  I had fun!

Guest Post by Vicki @ VickiChristine // Rule for Maternity Wear

as you’ve all seen many, many times from our simply just lovely erin, pregnancy style can be fun and modern and downright inspiring! also, how excited are we that her little guy is here!?
congrats erin! and thanks for having me here to share my preggo wear. we mommas-to-be gotta stick together! ok, onto the clothes, yes?

it’s important, when you’re pregnant and potentially not feeling your best, to remember that you can still dress to feel great about yourself. pregnancy is an amazing thing, after all. we deserve to feel pretty and special.

and so, in this spirit, i give you my latest fashion rule for maternity wear.
the maxi dress.

use it, abuse it.
embrace it and love it.

the maxi dress can be your best friend. tall or short (i’m 5’2”), it works for everyone. i know a lot of ladies are afraid of the maxi but one try and you’re going to be hooked. it’s the easiest solution to your morning routine. slip it on, throw a cardigan or blazer over it, slide into your most comfortably cute sandals and you’re out the door!

using jewelry, purses, belts, and even hairstyles can change your look entirely when you want to wear that dress again. same black dress above, two different looks.

and the best part?! most maxis don’t have to be from the maternity department. i snagged a handful of maxis from my local ross store and all were less than $17 each! ideal for short or long term wear.

i hope you’re all staying cool out there this summer. and if you’re not pregnant, thank your lucky stars you don’t have to endure this heat with someone else in your belly. because it. is. HOT.

happy maxi dressing!

Guest Post by Hima @ My Musings // Quick Black Bean Burger Recipe

Why, hello there! I'm Hima, 14 year-old optimist in the Silicon Valley. I'm absolutely addicted to strawberries and sea salt chocolate covered almonds. I'm a first degree black belt in taekwondo, and I love being outdoors and going hiking. My blog is mainly lifestyle, so I can post whatever I want, usually photography, food, DIY projects, and journals of important events. Enough about me, let's get on to the good stuff!

Oh yeah, that's me. Just thought you should know.

As summer comes to a close, it's hotter than ever, and we just want to enjoy the last few days of summer with some quick and easy food. It wouldn't do to eat fast food, because, while that's quick and easy, it's pretty much death in edible form. Not my ideal summer!

Last Saturday-ish, my parents were unpacking boxes, so I was charged with lunch. I found some black bean burgers in the fridge, and then pretty much winged it from there. I LOVED the result, so I thought I'd share it with ya'll. I'm not very good at recipes, so just use your common sense if you do end up trying something like this.

Time: 15 Minutes
Difficulty: If I can do this, even your 4 year-old can do this.
Makes: 4 Servings

  • 2-3 1/4 lb black bean burgers (We have a huge box from Costco)
  • 6-8 Corn-tortilla sized flatbreads. It doesn't really matter what you use, just that they're kinda small.
  • Mesclun greens
  • Mexican Cheese Mix (Shredded)
  • 8-10 Cherry Tomatoes halved
  • Sliced almonds
  • Your favorite dip or spread.

1, Put them burger on the pan and heat 'em up! Make sure they're a little crispy for texture. Have your tortilla element going simultaneously.

2. Mix up your sauce while those two are cooking away. I mixed some tandoori masala with tomato and basil hummus from Trader Joe's and it was absolutely delicious!

3. Spread the dip onto the tortilla, top with greens, tomatoes, pieces of burger and some cheese. Enjoy!

That's it guys! I thought this was hilariously simple and perfect for enjoying out on the steps with some strawberries and iced lemonade, and I hope you think so too! Thanks for having me, Erin! I loved it! :)
